SharePoint Online migration: intra-tenant and cross-tenant

We migrate with our own engine. Intra-tenant with server-side copy (5–10× faster, without sending data over the internet) and cross-tenant with identity mapping and permission replication. In waves, with GO/NO-GO pilots, checkpoint, automatic resume and outcome reports.

A ShareGate / SPMT alternative with server-side copy and our own engine. Ideal for consolidations, tenant mergers, spin-offs and reorganizations.

Two types of migration

Internal and external migration, with the same engine

Reorganizing within your own tenant is not the same as moving content between two different tenants. LS Migrate covers both scenarios and picks the optimal technical strategy for each case.

Intra-tenant · internal

Reorganization within the same tenant

Consolidate sites, move libraries, restructure toward a TO-BE architecture — without changing tenants.

  • Server-side copy (CopyToAsync): content never leaves the network → 5–10× faster.
  • Direct permission replication (same directory).
  • Reorganization plan with source→destination mappings.
  • Ideal for cleanup + consolidation after an internal merger.
Cross-tenant · external

Migration between two different tenants

Mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, tenant or vendor change — from the source tenant to the destination.

  • Identity mapping: source users and groups mapped to the destination.
  • Secure transfer with X.509 certificate authentication.
  • Permission replication with identity mapping.
  • Ideal for M&A, business-unit separation and vendor migrations.
The engine

What LS Migrate does

Our own migration engine (.NET 8) integrated into the Studio. These are the capabilities we use on every project.

Intra-tenant server-side copy

Server-to-server copy with no download and re-upload. 5–10× faster than ShareGate or SPMT, without transferring data over the internet.

🔁

Cross & intra-tenant

One engine to migrate between different tenants or reorganize within your own, choosing the optimal strategy per task.

🛡️

Permission replication

Permissions and access replicated with identity mapping in cross-tenant; direct in intra-tenant. Without losing the security model.

🌊

Waves and mappings

Wave-based migration with source→destination mappings per site, library and list. Full control over the scope of each batch.

🧪

AI GO/NO-GO pilots

Automatic pilots before the mass rollout, with AI analysis that recommends moving ahead or fixing before migrating the rest.

⏯️

Checkpoint and resume

If a wave is interrupted, it picks up from the last checkpoint. Pause, resume and cancel jobs on the fly.

🏗️

Intra-tenant reorganization

Reorganization plans to consolidate and restructure SharePoint within the same tenant, toward the designed TO-BE.

Post-migration validation

Readiness checks before and validation after (via Graph API or manual) to close each wave with evidence.

📄

Outcome reports

Status by task, error log and an executive migration summary — ready for the committee and for audit.

How we work

From AS-IS to production in controlled waves

1

AS-IS inventory

Sites, libraries, permissions and metadata from the source.

2

TO-BE design

Target architecture and source→destination mappings.

3

Wave plan

Prioritized batches with defined scope and window.

4

GO/NO-GO pilot

Pilot wave with AI analysis before the rollout.

5

Execution + reports

Monitored migration and outcome reports per wave.

Product in action

Monitored migration execution

Every migration task is executed and monitored from the Studio: type, source→destination, files migrated, failed, success rate and real-time status.

Migration deliverables

Outcome reports per wave

At the close of each wave we deliver evidence: what was migrated, what failed and an executive summary. Plus the migration plan and pilot results.

Migration Plan — waves, source→destination mappings and progress.
Status by Task — migrated, failed and success % per task.
Error Log — failed files grouped by task, with cause.
Executive Migration Summary — global KPIs for leadership.
Pilot Results — pilot runs and GO/NO-GO success rate.
Post-migration validation — content verification in the destination.
